Somers Town

Oh. My. Goodness. I've been on tenterhooks ever since I found out that Shane Meadows was making a new movie, and even more so since I found out that Thomas Turgoose would be filling the protagonistical role. Off I pottered to the local independent cinema to have a gander at the delights of this wonderful British film-maker. I was SO not disappointed. Obviously, I only went along because I like Shane Meadows and I like Thomas Turgoose, following his role in "This is England". I didn't have any airs or pretences about the film - I only wanted to watch it because I wanted to.

It was brilliant. Light-hearted, heart-warming and relateable. The film tells of two young boys who accidentally become friends through a shared crush on a French cafe waitress. I loved it. There was comic genius which left you smiling at each and every turn. The film is black and white, which only emphasized the arty, non-conformist feel of the movie in its entirety. The only downside was the ending, which was rather sudden. I liked it, but I can understand the feeling that it left you wanting a bit more.

Verdict? Go and see it if you can find a cinema that shows it. If not, wait for the DVD.

5/5
