Journey to the Centre of the Earth - 3D!

I'm not sure what lured my to the cinema to see JTTCOTE, but I have a feeling that it had something to do with the free 3D glasses that accompany it. That, and Brendan Fraser. There seems to be an awful lot of Brendan Fraser about these days, wouldn't you agree? Anyway, the film tells the story of Professor Trevor Anderson (Fraser) who gets landed with babysitting his cynic of a nephew for a couple of weeks. During this time, Andersons lab reports unusual activity in the monitoring system he built years earlier to keep an eye on volcanic activity. This predicatably coincides with the activity recorded in Andersons late brother's copy of the book, "Journey to the Centre of the Earth". I'm sure you can see what happens next. The unlikely pair travel to Iceland to check out the satellite, hire a beautiful (and single) mountain guide, and manage to find what nobody has every proved real - the centre of the earth. Along the way, they are faced with spectacular sights, dangerous creatures and rocketing temperatures. Finding that they are seeing exactly what is written in the book gives the group hope that somebody managed to escape, and they set about trying to get out. Predicatable, cheesy, 3D and brilliant. I liked most of the film, but there are a few points in it where you do realise that it's probably meant for children.

3/5
